How Long Does a Bathroom Refit Take? A Guide for Johnstone Homeowners

One of the most common questions from homeowners in Johnstone and Paisley is how long their bathroom will be out of action. While every project is different, here's a realistic guide based on typical projects we run across Renfrewshire.

A typical timeline

  • Day 1: Strip-out of old suite, tiles and flooring
  • Days 2–3: First fix plumbing and electrics, any structural changes
  • Days 3–5: Tanking/waterproofing and tiling walls and floor
  • Days 5–6: Second fix — fitting the suite, taps and shower
  • Day 6–7: Flooring finish, decorating, sealing and snagging

What can extend the timeline

Older Johnstone and Paisley properties sometimes reveal hidden issues once the old suite is removed, such as outdated pipework, damp subfloors or unexpected wiring. We always allow contingency for this in our quotes rather than surprising customers with delays later.

Bespoke tiling patterns, underfloor heating, or waiting on a specific bath or vanity unit to arrive can also add a few days. A straightforward like-for-like refit is usually the quickest; a full wet room conversion with structural changes takes longest.

Living without your bathroom

If you only have one bathroom, it's worth planning ahead — most tradespeople will try to keep at least a working toilet accessible for as much of the project as possible, and we're happy to talk through options if this is a concern.
