Living without a working kitchen is disruptive, so it's no surprise that timescale is one of the top questions we get from customers in Paisley, Johnstone and across Glasgow. While every project differs, most straightforward kitchen renovations follow a similar pattern.
Week one: strip-out and first fix
The old kitchen is removed, and any electrical or plumbing changes are carried out. In older Paisley and Glasgow tenement properties this stage can take slightly longer if pipework or wiring needs updating to current standards.
Week two: units, plastering and flooring
- Plastering and making good of walls
- New flooring laid or existing floor protected and finished
- Base and wall units installed and levelled
Week three: worktops, tiling and appliances
Worktops are templated and fitted, splashback tiling is completed, and appliances such as ovens, hobs and dishwashers are connected. Plumbing and electrics are second-fixed at this stage too.
Final days: finishing touches
Handles, lighting, sealant and a full snagging check round off the job. For a standard-sized kitchen in a Johnstone or Paisley home, most fits complete within three to four weeks. Larger or open-plan projects in Glasgow, especially those involving structural changes, can take five to seven weeks.
Plan for the disruption
We always recommend setting up a temporary kitchen area — kettle, microwave, mini fridge — in another room for the duration. It makes the process much easier to live with, particularly for families.
